How to care for oiled wooden furniture and how to impregnate it?
After applying the oil wax, the surface will only gain full hardness after about 4 weeks. During this time, avoid contact of the furniture with water, cleaning agents and liquids. Proper use of the furniture during this period should be careful. After a month, you can start the first care treatments.
To clean dust and minor dirt, it is recommended to use a soft, slightly damp cotton cloth with a small amount of a product designed for the care of oiled wood (e.g. Osmo 8026 Spray Cleaning Fluid or Osmo 3029 Wax Cleaning and Care Product). Avoid rubbing hard, as this may cause discoloration or lightening of the surface in the place of rubbing. Always wipe the surface in accordance with the grain of the wood. To maintain the aesthetic appearance of the furniture, cleaning should only be carried out when really necessary. Thanks to this, the furniture will look perfect for a longer time.
Impregnation of oiled furniture should be repeated. If matte stains appear on the surface, the top is no longer shiny and smooth, and liquids are absorbed instead of collecting on the surface, a new layer of oil wax should be applied to the top immediately. Failure to follow these recommendations may result in permanent stains from colouring substances and streaks! Impregnation should be performed once a year or more often.
Impregnation oil can be purchased from the manufacturer (Osmo) or from us (care kit). Instructions for applying colourless oil wax (Osmo 3058):
1. Remove any dirt with a damp cloth or the above-mentioned agent.
2. Gently sand the surface of the wood with P240 sandpaper. The wood should be sanded along the grain - sanding across may cause scratches.
3. Wipe the top with a damp cloth to remove sanding dust.
4. Apply a thin layer of oil wax with a cotton cloth to thoroughly cover the entire surface of the countertop.
5. After about half an hour, gently wipe off any excess oil wax with the same cloth.
6. Leave to dry for 24 hours. Ensure good ventilation in the room.
7. Repeat steps 2-6 two or three times until you achieve a satisfactory effect.
8. After the last layer of oil wax has dried, polish the entire surface along the grain of the wood with P600 paper.
If the countertop requires re-application of the coloring agent (all shades of wood except natural), please contact sklep@szyszkadesign.pl to order a product in the appropriate color.
